Pet Sitting Rates
An aspiring pet sitter wants to make the most of his time. It is a business where more money comes in daily with regular clients.
To put it in simple words, one who can give 3 to 4 hours to pet sitting can make more money than a person who does pet sitting only once in a week.
If your aim is to earn more money through net premium or higher fees by pet sitting, then you need to offer to your clients more time with more services. In Unites States of America, the pet sitters earn about $10 to $25 per visit, depending on the expectation the client has from the pet sitter and how much the pet sitter is able to fulfil them.
You do not have a rulebook or a formal set of guidelines to govern pet sitters. You must take the industry average into consideration if you do not want to overcharge for your services.
This can be explained through an example. Let us assume the client has asked the pet sitter to feed his pets, pour fresh water in bowls and give the pets some exercise time, for these services the pet sitter cannot ask for an amount as high as $50 for the visit because these are the services that are considered to be basic and clients expect to pay only the average rate which can be as low as $10 or as high as $25.
There are multiple factors affecting the rates you offer to clients. If you are a beginner and have not built a client base yet, then it is would be preferable to offer a basic package to new clients and charge least amount that is somewhere around $10 to $15.
You have the option to charge more money from clients in future by giving additional services like dog walking and basic pet grooming. It is necessary to expand your skill set as a professional pet sitter to be able to break even. This is more desirable if you have to drive long distance to reach a client.
Most of the clients expect the pet sitter to do other basic tasks like housekeeping tasks also. These tasks may involve watering plants, taking the garbage out etc.
The client would not expect you to do odd jobs like cleaning the bathrooms but they will appreciate if the pet sitter is diligent enough to do the maintenance tasks like bringing in the mail for them, especially in cases when the clients are away for most of the day. It is recommended to add $1 to $3 for an additional animal placed under your care.
The basic rate for the care of one animal varies from $10 to $20. If additional animals are present at the client’s home who need to be fed and given fresh water, then you should charge for the same accordingly. Too low a price makes the client think that the animals will not be taken care of satisfactorily and also makes them doubt the quality of your service.
The client may not be able to afford your services if you quote high prices for the same. An additional $5 to $10 may be added to the professional charges everyday if a client requests services on a Sunday. If you are somebody who only prefers dog walking then you can manage to charge between $10 and $ 15 for a brisk walk with the client’s dog.
